Colors unconsciously affect our mood and state of mind – some colors boost enjoyment while others may give a sense of pleasure. These intrinsic virtues of color make it more important for restaurants, spas, hotels and other hospitality businesses, and they have to be careful while selecting their color-combinations. With the use of colors, interior designers are able to give a feeling of an alternate environment like traditional, contemporary, modern, tropical, country, or transitional. Colors may also be used to emphasize architectural elements of the space.
One of the first impressions of an arriving guest is of the entrance lobby – therefore, it must be carefully designed. The lobby is used as a waiting area and should be able to strike a balance between intimate and social moods. Comfort and functionality must be stressed upon when designing a lobby. Features such as indoor waterfalls, green walls, and large chandeliers enable the guest to believe they are in a comfortable and relaxing zone.
The color combination of the room and the materials used also play a vital role in enhancing the experience of the guest. If the hotel/resort is in a natural setting, colors depicting nature ensure balance; for example an extensive use of blue for a beachfront property. If the hotel is a modern facility in the city, neutral beige colors help a guest to relax in the room. When these tones are paired with matching colors, they make the room look modern and sophisticated.
The cool side of the color wheel is reminiscent of the variegated colors. Use of sea foam green and aqua blue colors are not only refreshing, but also have a psychological advantage. These cool hues visually drop the temperature by a few degrees.
A swimming pool is the ultimate amenity. It is a strong aesthetic element of the hospitality industry and is the focus of the entire landscape planning and design. The blue waterfall feature, steam and spa, lighting, material selection, adjacent sitting space under the green trees and plants add to a truly decadent experience.
Vibrant color, lighting and a unique environment, creates an appealing draw for space. Hotels, resorts and spas are therefore increasingly becoming creative with their color combinations to enhance their guests’ experiences which eventually add toward building a memorable experience.
